Theodore Boone Kid Lawyer by John Grisham - Reviewed by Luke Allan

Theodore Boone Kid Lawyer, is a great young-adult fiction book written by the famous lawyer/author, John Grisham.

This book is a remarkable mystery kind of book that will keep you turning the pages. Young Theodore Boone is only thirteen years old and he dreams of someday being a trial lawyer or a judge, he loves watching trials and knows almost all of the people that work in the local courtroom in Strattenburg and knows almost everything there is to know about the law. He is an only child who lives in a small city called Strattenburg with his mom, dad and his dog “Judge”, the book is set in present time. Theo is stuck in a big dilemma that he can not solve by himself.

This fiction book has a very intriguing plot and the conflict is character versus society. Theo gives people legal advice and he does this for free. So when a key witness for one of the biggest murder trials in Strattenburg comes to him with what he saw, Theodore does not know what to do. This witness would for sure change the outcome of the trial and it would bring justice to the murderer. The problem is, that the witness is an illegal immigrant who does not want to go in to court because he is scared of being sent to prison. Now, Theo is in the middle of this huge dilemma that he has no idea how to solve. Theo also promised to keep the witness a secret. As the case is coming to an end, Theo has to act quickly if he wants to bring justice to the murderer.

I think the author, John Grisham did a wonderful job getting the main idea and the conflict across to the reader. I loved the whole book except for the end, I did not really like the ending because they did not finish solving the problem, this left me with a lot of questions about the end. There is a sequel in this series and I am guessing that they solve the problem in that book, I will have to read it. I liked how the author presented the theme of mystery very well, at the same time keeping it suspenseful. This book would be very enjoyable for anyone who like the law or desires to be a lawyer. The book is written by a former lawyer and is all about the law. As I was reading the book I noticed that the author does a great job of describing the different settings in much detail. “Judge Henry Gantry tugged on the right sleeve of his long black robe to adjust it properly, then stepped through the massive oak door.” (Grisham 56). That is one example of him describing in lots of detail.

I loved reading this book and I think you should all read it. It only took me three days to read, because I was so sucked in. I was really in to this book because I have some desire to be a lawyer when I get older. This magnificent thriller will bring you right in to the world of law, crime, and justice.

  1. Dear Luke,
This book seems very interesting. I was just wondering at the end, did the witness (illegal immigrant) went to court?

  2. Dear Luke,

Your book review was very well written and you provided loads of (correct) information! However, you said seldom words on the murder trial. Who was the defendant? Which lawyers were involved? Who was the judge? Thank you.

    Sincerely,
    Kyle

  3. Dear Galadrielle,
Thank you for asking the question. The answer is no, the reason I did not enjoy the ending of the book was because the man did not go to court and the problem was not solved in the book.

  4. Thank you kyle,
The murderer was named Peter Duffy and went to court for being accused of the murder of his wife. His lawyer was named Clifford Nance and was the defence lawyer. The prosecution lawyer's name was Jack Hogan. The judge was named Henry Gantry.

  5. Dear Luke,

Your book review does a great job describing this book and makes me want to pick it up! You gave so much detail about the main character and the main conflict. You mentioned that you didn't like the ending because they did not solve the problem. Does the author present any kind of foreshadowing on the outcome of the trial for the sequel? Do you think Theo will keep his promise to the illegal immigrant or use him as a witness to bring justice?

    Sincerely,
    Alexa

  6. Dear Luke,
Really good and descriptive review! In this critical review, you mention Theodore a lot of times, so I was wondering if you could describe his character traits (short, tall, sad, happy, lonely, etc.)?
    Thank you,
    Adam
