Harry Potter and the Order of the
Phoenix , by J.K. Rowling, is a lengthly fantasy novel. It is the fifth book in
a series of seven, and I strongly recommend reading the first four books before
reading this one.The story takes place in the United Kingdom, and Harry Potter,
a skinny, raven-haired, bespectacled fifteen-year-old wizard, is very soon
going to be in his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As
the end of the summer vacation approaches, he is anxious to get back to
school to find out why his friends, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, along
with the school’s Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, have not sent him any
information about what is happening in the wizarding world all summer.
But
until the the hot August days stop and September kicks in, Harry is stuck with
the Dursleys; his Muggle (non magic) aunt and uncle Petunia and Vernon, and
their overweight, spoilt son Dudley. They treat Harry horribly, and despise
anything that is not “normal” (like magic).
When
he finally gets to Hogwarts, he goes on to have yet another strikingly exiting
year there, and like in the rest of the books, he accomplishes
multiple astonishing feats. He faces many challenges, such as when Professor
Umbridge (from the Ministry) arrives. She takes up the job of
Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, which changes every year due to a curse
set upon it by Voldemort (a dark, evil wizard and Harry’s ultimate enemy)
himself. She is an evil lady, and Harry goes to enormous lengths to confront
and defy her any way he can by creating a secret organisation amongst students.
Harry
Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is my favourite book of all in the Harry
Potter series and I have read it multiple times, because it is the most
auspicious one in my opinion and the longest of all. J.K Rowling is an amazing
writer, and conveys realistic characters, mind-boggling conflict along with a
hooking plot. It speaks of bravery, defying evil, and strong friendships
altogether. I strongly recommend this book to those who enjoy reading long,
riveting fantasy novels, and whom have read the books that come before this one
in its series.
Dear Lilia,
ReplyDeleteYour book review is breathtaking. In the third paragraph, you wrote about Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, could you elaborate on that subject, please.
Thank you, Galadrielle
Hi, Gala!
DeleteThanks for asking me a question. The new Defence Against the Dark arts teacher, Professor Umbridge, was cruel because she didn't let any of the students use magic in her class. She was extremely strict and dressed in bright pink all the time. She was high up in the ministry, and had the authority to make a bunch of new rules
at Hogwarts that were in her favour. Eventually she became the new Headmaster of Hogwarts and kicked Dumbledore out, and I believe this is when Harry decided to create a secret organisation among students that worked against her.
I hope this was helpful,
Lilia
Dear Lilia,
ReplyDeleteI have read The Order of the Phoenix as well and I thought it was a great book! Do you think Harry’s personality changes throughout the book, if yes then how?
Sincerely,
Adele
Dear Adele,
DeleteThank you for asking me a question! Harry’s mood/personality does change throughout the book, but it mostly changes throughout the whole series. In the book though, he gets significantly happier and mature when he gets to Hogwarts. It really is the family and home he never got with the Dursleys, after all. We also discover from this first book onwards that Harry is a very brave person; In every book he does something astonishing.
Dear Lilia,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your book review i can tell it was well thought out and had very descriptive sentences. You also gave plenty of info about the base of the novel. But i didn't quite catch the events that happened during the 5th year at Hogwarts. Could you please clear that up for me. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Hugo
