Paper Towns Book Review by Armita

Paper Towns by John Green is a fictional novel that was fantastic, interesting, mysterious and unique, I really enjoyed reading it. The main characters in the novel is Quentin Jacobsen who is usually called “Q” and Margo Roth Spiegelman. Q’s life was completely changed by Margo. When they were young they had lots of fun & had a great bond. As they got older and went into high school their friendship faded away. They hardly spoke until one night where Margo sneaked into Q’s room and asked him for a backup man for her elaborate night of revenge! The next morning there is a detective and Margo’s parents in Q’s kitchen and Margo is gone. Q is determined to find her and goes all the way from Orlando, Florida to Agloe, New York within the next 24 hours trying to find her!

There are many conflicts in the novel Paper Towns. For me two conflicts stood out. The first one is Q vs. The people who don't care about Margo. This happened when Q was trying to find Margo and felt like society doesn’t want to find him. He thinks that it’s his responsibility to find Margo because they were together her last night. He thinks that must mean something. He feels like he is the only one who is concerned & believes his parents don't care about where she is or what she is doing anymore.  The other one that stood out to me was Margo vs. Her Life. Margo doesn’t understand the point of worrying or preparing for your future. She thinks it’s a waste of time. She feels lonely because her family doesn’t care if she leaves or not. Maybe she just wants her parents to notice her.

            In my opinion John Green did a great job and was very successful in presenting his central idea. It was presented very clearly and knowledgeable. You could tell, what he was trying to say through all the very purposeful and descriptive words. Paper Towns was a very appealing and impressive novel. In my opinion the most profound and powerful part of the book was when Margo confessed how she really felt about her life in Orlando at the top floor of the SunTrust building. There they had a conversation and Margo confessed “It’s a paper town. All those paper people living in their paper houses,” From then on Q started figuring out how the real Margo is. I really enjoyed this book and I couldn’t put it down once while I was reading it. I highly recommend this book for people who like realistic/adventure novels.
